Minnesota Wild Schedule 2008

The Minnesota Wild’s 82-game schedule in 2008 features some notable matchups as well as attractions for local fans.  The Wild will play eight games on the cable TV channel, which broadcasts a majority of the NHL games available to basic cable viewers.  Minnesota fans can also watch the Wild playing the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on NBC’s April 5th broadcast, as the 2008 season draws to a close.  The remaining games will be available on Fox Sports Network (FSN) North and KSTC.

Fans of the Minnesota Wild will be able to access upper level seats for as low as $29 with seats near the ice running $330.  While the ticket price seems high, the franchise has peppered its schedule with promotions to keep fans excited for Wild hockey.  The primary promotion on the Minnesota Wild’s 2008 schedule is a five-game giveaway called the State of Hockey Greats Coffee Mug Series.

The Minnesota Wild is celebrating the state’s central role in American hockey by giving away mugs featuring prominent Minnesota natives and former players. Notable players featured on these coffee mugs include former Minnesota North Star and current Dallas Star player Mike Modano, former USA Hockey coach Herb Brooks, and former NHL players Neal Broten and Phil Housley.  The State of Hockey Greats Coffee Mug Series starts with the November 26th game versus the Dallas Stars and ends with the April 20th home closer against the Nashville Predators.

The franchise’ effort to attract more kids to the NHL and hockey in general has led to the creation of the Minnesota Wild Kids Club.  This club holds events before games throughout the 2008 schedule that allow kids to get down on the ice and meet players.  Past events have featured miniature games on the Wild’s home ice, meetings with players, and insights into professional hockey by Wild coaches.  These events are not publicized on the general schedule, but members can get special schedules to get kids on the ice.

Another option for hockey fans who do not want to pay hundreds of dollars for tickets is the Wild’s Gametime Rush.  This program sets aside a portion of unsold tickets up to 90 minutes before the puck is dropped for late-arriving fans.  These tickets are discounted to $47 each, with attendees able to purchase up to two tickets for an upcoming game.  While these seats vary from ice level to the upper level, fans of the Minnesota Wild can see teams like the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Dallas Stars without busting their budgets.
